Philosophy and Approach
The thoughts we have and believe about ourselves influence how we act in our lives and relationships. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Theory and Solution-Focused Therapy and with the support of the therapeutic relationship, I believe you can identify your own personal goals and strengths to help you cope with overwhelming transitions and emotions.
My focus on counseling starts with genuineness and empathy. This is a strengths-based perspective that provides practical and immediate ways to address problems in the moment. I offer suggestions and work alongside you to determine goals while supporting you during this journey. Together, we can focus on addressing negative thoughts and new positive ways to help you find balance and wholeness. In a counseling relationship, you can begin to explore personal thoughts and goals in a nonjudgmental and safe space. In our sessions, we stay present in the moment with the overall goal to rebuild self-esteem, practice ways to manage feelings of anxiety, depression, and enjoy relationships. We can explore aspects of faith, community, personal values, communication in relationships, and help you find useful and helpful resources in the community to build upon your personal growth and wellbeing.
Formal Education and Training
I received my Master of Arts in Counseling from George Fox in 2016. My coursework included child, adolescent, and adult development, psychopathology, group therapy, clinical skills, and professional ethics and development. My experience has been working with adults and children in a clinical setting. I began my career working in a mental health program, offering higher levels of care in a residential treatment program with adolescents to provide strengths-based and trauma-informed care. After working in a clinic that focused on ADHD specialties, I focused on understanding the role of neurodivergence to provide needed support and advocate for clients needing accommodations in different settings.
